Top 3 multicurrency wallet for sending money

Colin Baseman

The crypto industry continues to develop, and the most pressing issue is still the secure storage of digital assets. And despite the wide choice of crypto wallets, it can be difficult to find the best option for yourself.

Before we move on to the selection, let's briefly review the basics of how they wor

As strange as it may sound, digital wallets themselves do not store cryptocurrency, but only provide access to information about it and the opportunity to interact with the blockchain. In fact, it is an interface that is convenient and intuitive for the user

The public and private key is the most important and valuable thing in this whole story.

You can use a public key (address) to deposit funds, and a private key to send funds.

In fact, as such, cryptocurrency exchange does not occur, there is only a record of changing the owner and changing the balance on public addresses. All this information is stored in the blockchain, is publicly available, and is protected from deletion or overwriting.

If you keep only one cryptocurrency, say Bitcoin, you need a purse with keys only for this cryptocurrency. If you plan to hold several coins, creating a wallet for each currency seems like a chore and is basically unnecessary.  For this purpose, there are multi-currency wallets, which to varying degrees cope with the safety of funds and ensuring the anonymity of the user.

It is important to remember that when creating a new multi-currency wallet, you need to save a seed phrase (a set of 12 words and their sequence), which will help restore the wallet and get access to funds in case the device is lost.

If you plan on conducting regular transaction, best fit for you are “hot” (local, mobile and browser) wallets.

One of the most popular wallets today is Jaxx Liberty

It was liked by users for supporting more than 85 popular cryptocurrencies and cross-platform functionality, as well as the possibility of internal exchange via the ShapeShift platform.

Development of Jaxx began in 2014 by Decentral Inc from Toronto (Canada). Its founder, Anthony Di Iorio, is also known as the co-founder of the Ethereum blockchain.  In February 2016, the first public presentation of the product took place, and two years later, in March 2018, the developers announced that Jaxx had been downloaded more than 1.2 million times.

Jaxx supports HD wallets, which means that you can generate multiple separate addresses from the original seed phrases. If with a private key, you only get access to the balance of one coin, then the seed phrase allows you to restore information and get access to the balances of all cryptocurrencies that the user interacted with.

It is very important to keep the seed phrase in a safe place and away from other people's eyes!

To ensure additional anonymity of users, the application generates a new public address for depositing a digital asset every time.

What is also very important is that users have access to private wallet keys for each cryptocurrency separately. At any time, you can extract the private key and to interact with the balance of the selected coins.

The main disadvantage of Jaxx is that its source code is only partially disclosed to the participants of the crypto community and this does not allow you to fully verify its security.

The Jaxx interface is intuitive and easy to configure, but only in the English version. Otherwise, the wallet is perfect for both beginners and experienced users of cryptocurrencies.

Jaxx is available as a mobile app for Android, iOS, and desktop versions for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. You can also install it as an extension for Google Chrome.

Online wallet -  Guarda Wallet

This multi-currency wallet will be of interest to users who need to quickly receive or send cryptocurrency without installing any programs.

Guarda supports a total of 47 different cryptocurrencies and all existing tokens of the BEP-2 (Binance Chain tokens) and ERC-20 (Ethereum tokens) standards.

If necessary, you can add your own token, for example, received during the airdrop, by simply entering the transaction ID of the smart contract (TXID) and activating it in your wallet.

There is also an internal exchange service and the ability to purchase cryptocurrency via Visa and MasterCard, or via bank transfer.

Guarda security is provided by local processing of all data and generation of public keys in the browser, and AES encryption. User data is not stored anywhere and is not transmitted to third parties. The main advantage is open source code and full control over private keys with the ability to import and export them.

Anonymous HD wallet is available not only in the web version, there is a mobile app, desktop version and browser extension.

The history of Guarda began in 2017 with the release of the first cryptocurrency wallet (Ethereum Wallet for Android). Since then, Guarda (officially registered as Guardian OÜ in the European Union) has been creating an ecosystem of blockchain-related products.

At the moment, the company has received a license (FIU) that allows you to exchange cryptocurrencies for Fiat currencies. Since its inception, the company has released about 10 different products, most of which are wallets, exchanges, token generators, and even prepaid debit cards.

Ledger Nano cold wallet

If you are planning to build your cryptocurrency portfolio and are worried about its safety, then cold (hardware) wallets are the best way to handle this task. One of the most popular and reliable wallets of this type is  Ledger Nano.

Founded in 2014, Ledger specializes in developing various products and services to protect the crypto assets of individuals and companies. Among the popular products is the Ledger line of hardware wallets, which are already sold in 165 countries. At the time, the company attracted more than $ 85 million in investments.

Externally, the wallet looks like a regular flash drive with built-in software that is responsible for the safety of funds and interaction with crypto assets.

The first time you connect to your computer, you will need to enter a PIN code to protect your device from unauthorized access. Next, a 24-word led phrase will be displayed, which must be written down (with the sequence of words saved) and stored in a safe place.

Even if your computer is compromised, no one will be able to access your wallet and its keys. This is why the seed phrase is displayed on the device's small screen.

After setting up the device, you will need to install Ledger Live, a desktop application that allows you to interact with the device (i.e. send and receive cryptocurrency).

At the moment, Ledger supports 22 cryptocurrencies and more than 1250 tokens of the ERC-20 standard.

After installing the program, accounts are created for the user's chosen cryptocurrencies, which are also synchronized with the wallet. The setup is quite simple and does not take much time.

In the future, to send crypto assets, you will need to confirm this action physically on the device, and when you receive it, you can use both an existing address and generate a new one to ensure better anonymity.

This type of wallet is called cold, because the information about your assets is offline, without access to the Internet, which means that there is no chance of hacking or data theft.

The only thing I want to point out is the need to track the release of updates for these devices. If the wallet software has not been updated for a long time, there may be nuances when trying to install a new update. Otherwise, you will have to restore your wallet data using a seed phrase on the new device.

NEVER buy Ledger or other hardware wallets on eBay or similar sites. Buy such gadgets only from the official website of the manufacturer.

Remember that no matter which wallet you use, the loss of private keys or a seed phrase leads to the loss of your funds. Also, if you sent funds to a non-existent address, your wallet is hacked or in the hands of a fraudster, the lost amount cannot be returned, as well as the transaction cannot be canceled.

Therefore, the more security levels are provided, the more reliable the protection of your funds will be: PIN code every time you open the wallet app, withdraw funds only by password, two-factor authentication, setting complex passwords, creating backups and storing them in a safe place.

Using all the advantages of cryptocurrency, you are becoming your own bank, and how reliable and secure it is depends on you.
