Tracking Technologies Provide More SafetyColin Baseman
Approaches keep developing and improving. And there are apps that help us trace the coronavirus – we need them to feel safe and secure during the hardest times. The new app will help society to verify the status of individuals. The developers are still working on it. The team consists of programmers, IT specialists and scientists. Thanks to the efforts made by the team working in the SAR, the planet will finally manage to solve part of issues related to the pandemic.
The main mission is to create a platform that would make it possible to trace infected individuals. The person would be asked to verify his status. If his behavior is responsible, then he will get a reward from the app. People will not need to worry about privacy and security of their personal information. At the same time, the application would give precise information and identify infection hotspots.
Mobile applications have always been quite popular among phone owners who use them for tracing. Besides the above-mentioned, there’re other research programs and developers all around the globe where labs are doing their best to create other types of tracing software platforms. The difference is that the new Covi-ID app runs on a different platform and uses a new approach. It applies blockchain technology along with SSI.
It all starts with creating an account. Only then will it be possible to verify the status. You can open an account in two ways – either by means of a custodial wallet offered by authorities or via wallet offered by Covi-ID. Luckily, both alternatives are safe and secure. Personal data stay private and third parties cannot access the user’s information.
We cannot ignore the fact that the number of people who cannot afford a smartphone is still huge. In this instance people will still be able to use the platform. They will need to create a custodial account and choose a wallet from a commercial partner cooperating with Covi-ID.
The individual proves his identity. He takes a photo, enters his phone number and full name. Each individual receives a QR code. The system scans it to check the person’s status. Commercially involved partners store people’s data in custodial wallets. The software traces events and movements and then informs people if they contacted with someone whose COVID status is positive. Authorities get in touch with the user by phone he provided.
Users with some certain symptoms can take tests and consult a professional. Specialists would scan the code and then verify the person by checking the photo. After confirmation, patients are logged into their accounts. After recovery individuals receive a green status meaning that they do not pose any threat to other people’s health. A read status indicates that the person is suffering from the virus and he needs immediate isolation from society. A yellow status is for negative cases. It also indicates that the person has no infection or vaccination.
Privacy Is of Utmost Importance
The key mission of the project is to guarantee that people’s personal information is well-protected. At the same time, the software is necessary to trace and inform society what needs to be done to improve the situation and prevent the virus from further spreading. The SSI community continues to develop standards. The creators of the project are fully aware of that and are ready to comply with them.
The project developers understand that most of those located in South Africa will use custodial wallets, although their major goal is to help users rely on an SSI app. The system is very likely to be fully decentralized in the future. Privacy regulations are strict and breaking them is inacceptable. More than that, programmers predict that there will be a race – it is not yet clear which custodial wallet will become the most trustworthy and popular.
